Position Overview
We are seeking a Biomedical / Clinical Research Information Specialist to support the development, maintenance, and publication of controlled terminologies used across clinical and biomedical research domains. This role supports terminology production cycles, responds to high-priority clinical and research requests, and helps ensure interoperability across research, clinical, and regulatory systems.
Key Responsibilities
Edit, process, and publish controlled terminologies and vocabularies supporting clinical and biomedical research
Model clinical and research concepts using standardized ontology languages (e.g., OWL2 or equivalent)
Respond to terminology requests from internal and external stakeholders
Maintain current and accurate terminology content reflecting evolving clinical practice and research
Perform data conversion, normalization, and mapping across formats, standards, and systems
Proactively identify gaps in terminology coverage and recommend enhancements
Ensure quality control and adherence to established editorial policies and best practices
Support ongoing terminology production cycles, including responsiveness to time-sensitive or high-priority requests
Contribute domain expertise to terminology gap analysis and refinement activities
Participate in AI-assisted or automated terminology workflows, including review and validation of system-generated term suggestions
Apply subject matter knowledge to support semantic interoperability across clinical and research data standards
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in biomedical research, clinical research, health informatics, or related fields
Hands-on experience working with controlled vocabularies, terminologies, or ontologies
Demonstrated understanding of clinical and research data standards and representation
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in a relevant discipline, such as:
Nursing
Pharmacology or Pharmacy
Public Health
Medicine
Biology or Molecular Biology
Experience with terminology development, curation, or modeling
Familiarity with data standards, metadata models, and interoperability frameworks
Technical Skills & Knowledge
Best practices in semantic representation of clinical and biomedical data
Working knowledge of healthcare and regulatory terminology standards, such as:
SNOMED CT
ICD (e.g., ICD-10-CM)
MedDRA
Experience integrating terminology content with clinical, research, or regulatory information systems
Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality, consistency, and governance
