Mid Level
At Digital Infuzion, we’re passionate about developing innovative healthcare solutions that empower researchers and providers with on-demand data and tailored software. Our focus is on advancing technology and bioinformatics to create meaningful impacts on patients' lives. If you're looking for a role in a creative, growth-oriented environment while contributing to better public health outcomes, this opportunity could be a great fit.

As part of our interdisciplinary team of scientists and technologists, you’ll help remove barriers to data sharing and enable knowledge discovery through advanced analytics. You’ll apply your technical skills in a dynamic, innovation-driven environment to support national research projects in infectious diseases and translational sciences.

We use a microservices-based architecture on AWS, with a mix of open-source technologies, serverless solutions, and managed cloud services. We’re seeking a motivated Cloud Database Developer to work closely with our team, developing and maintaining data components to ensure high-quality data management, transformation, and curation. You'll also have the opportunity to contribute to our GenAI projects, helping build solutions that leverage generative AI to enhance data analysis and knowledge extraction.

This is a work-from-home/remote-eligible position.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Create complex data pipelines using services such as AWS Lambda Functions, Lambda Triggers, State Machines, and Amazon Kinesis Data Streams.
  • Develop and maintain Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) scripts, SQL scripts, and ETL schedules using schema-on-read services such as AWS Athena with Glue Crawlers.
  • Ensure the operational health of managed relational databases (RDS) in an AWS Cloud-based environment, focusing on availability, scalability, and performance through managed services.
  • Collaborate with scientists and analysts to fully understand requirements and translate them into appropriate technical solutions.
  • Participate in the refinement and development of user stories, assessing the impact of new development on current database implementation, and providing level-of-effort estimates during Sprint planning.
  • Provide development and administration support for numerous NoSQL datastores in an AWS Cloud-based development environment, including schemaless design, key structure management, global index creation, JSON document schema creation, and overall database design.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and logging for databases using cloud-native tools like AWS CloudWatch, and optimize performance through automated scaling, caching, and backups.
  • Evaluate and recommend cloud-based data storage mechanisms to optimize the overall design and architecture of the platform based on requirements.

Requirements:
  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in cloud infrastructure and database design, development, and management.
  • Proficiency in working with JSON for data manipulation, API development, and cloud data exchange.
  • Experience with parsing and transforming JSON data within cloud environments (e.g., AWS Lambda, DynamoDB).
  • AWS or other cloud-relevant expertise in database management and design.
  • Knowledge of NoSQL datastore design and implementation, such as DynamoDB, DocumentDB, MongoDB, Apache Solr, or AWS OpenSearch, as well as graph databases like Neo4j or Neptune.
  • Familiarity with vector stores like Pinecone or ChromaDB.
  • Extensive data migration skills and experience with ETL concepts and tools.
  • Familiarity with backup and recovery, performance tuning, and optimization.
  • Demonstrated experience with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL, focusing on managing their health and operational readiness in cloud environments.
  • Understanding of transactional database and data warehouse architecture, design, and development.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as CloudFormation or Serverless Framework for deploying data management solutions.
  • Experience working in an iterative software development life cycle.
  • Experience in government healthcare programs.
  • Experience designing ER diagrams and implementing logical and physical data models.
  • Working knowledge of Python, Node.js, or other programming languages.
  • Background in bioinformatics or computational biology.
  • Background in computational statistics and data analysis.
  • Interest in contributing to the development of GenAI solutions, including tasks such as creating data pipelines for training models, integrating generative AI capabilities into existing systems, and working on proof-of-concept projects to enhance data analysis and knowledge extraction.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
